Turkish Women's Basketball League
The Turkish Women’s Basketball League (Turkish: "Türkiye 1. Kadınlar Basketbol Ligi", TKBL) is the top women’s professional basketball league in Turkey organized by the Turkish Basketball Federation. The women’s league started in 1980. There is also a Turkish Women’s Second Basketball League (TKB2L).
The competition
The competitions are played in two categories: Standard league and playoffs. There are 12 teams in the league and they play against each other twice in the league manner, once at their home and the other away. At the end of the season, the top 8 teams qualify for the playoff games. The two lowest placed teams of the Premier League, ranking 11th and 12th, relegate into the Second League. The two top teams of the Second League are promoted to the Premier League.
The playoffs follow a tournament format in three rounds for 8 teams: first round, semifinals and final. The four winners of the first round go to the semifinal round. The two victors of the semifinals compete in the final playoff round for the TBBL championship.
Galatasaray is the most successful team of this competition with 11 trophies.
